Philanthropy and volunteer leadership have been a key part of my annual goal setting process. I volunteer at least once each month, and get great joy from helping others in my community - whether it's those who are hungry, those who could use mentoring, or those who could benefit from learning.
Here are a few examples of how I have given back this year.
Green Mountain College Alumni Advisory Board: For the past 4 years I have served as the vice chair of this board of directors that works to engage alumni and support the college with their enrollment. I have served on panels for conferences and events, mock interviewed students as they practice for their job search, and helped to build a peer mentor program at the College.
Granite State Learning and Organizational Development Round Table: As the founder and co-chair of this 8 year-old professional association, I have led annual planning, scheduling of meetings, managing membership, and serving as the spokesperson for the group. This organization is free to members and my management of this group is voluntary.
Babson College Coaching for Leadership, and Teamwork Program: Serve Babson College students in their Coaching Leadership Program that supports first-year and fourth-year students.
Venture Cafe: This nonprofit in Cambridge, MA supports entrepreneurs and connects them with venture capitalists, in addition to providing mentoring programs on-site through SCORE. I have volunteered as a speaker to entrepreneurs leading workshops focused on “Sustaining Optimism, Resilience and Grit.”
Cape Cod Institute: I served as a volunteer Course Assistant at this wonderful learning center this year and I supported Bob Anderson, founder of the Leadership Circle assessment in his 5-day workshop.
Massachusetts Conference for Women: Each December, I volunteer to set up this massive event that supports Women's development and leadership. I am part of a large team that gives back by helping get the facility ready for this amazing event for over 10,000 participants!
In what ways are you giving back to your community personally or professionally? Please share in the comments. If you have specific questions, ask me. I'm happy to help.
